INSTRUCTIONS
WEEK 3 (22/01/21)
For Project 1, we have to create an infographic poster that visualises a recipe from a video chosen by ourselves from the Pasta Grannies YouTube channel. I had chosen Licia Fertz, an eccentric social media granny! Here is the video below:
After choosing our video, we had to chunk the information given to us following the principles and ideas we had learned from the FLIP lecture given to us by our peers.
WEEK 3 (26/01/21)
For today's class, I had prepared my chunking for Project 1. I am a rather messy thinker, at least in my opinion! Though the information may look scattered around I can assure you I understand what is going on!!

WEEK 4 (29/01/21)
Today we had our presentation for our final project animatic! I am also a little behind on Project 1 as I am struggling with visualising the ideas I have into something that is easily understandable for an audience. It makes me realise how much thinking goes into creating infographics.
WEEK 5 (02/02/21)
In today's class, I did not show Ms Anis direct progress by sharing screen but rather through DMs. I have scrapped the initial idea I had, for the most part, deciding to stick with one theme being the social media idea. I also realised how blocked off and segmented the infographic was feeling with very minimal flow as it felt so rigid.
Here is a screenshot of the idea I had sent to Ms Anis. It was a very different vibe as the colours I had chosen for the original idea were extremely difficult to work with. It felt limiting to have such bright colours without being able to balance it out well. For the new idea, I am trying to go for a much more visual way of depicting the process as told by Ms Anis in the first idea, as it seemed too wordy.
WEEK 5 (05/02/21)
I have progressed a lot with the idea from the previous class. I added more detail and added a sort of "the main subject" to the piece as I realised it was mainly just instruction without many indications as to how the final product would really end up looking like other than a small picture in square emulating an Instagram feed.

Here is the final outcome! I added more steps in the creation of the pasta, along with the ragu as well. I illustrated everything in Photoshop and drew it all. I tried using some of the typographical knowledge blessed upon me by Mr Vinod as well in terms of the hierarchy of information for this piece. Though I tried being experimental with the text by having it go outside the margins, it ended up not working according to Ms Anis and I changed it. I also included some pictures of Licia herself, after all, she is the heart of the recipe!
Here is the finalised version of the poster with the text fixed below:
WEEK 6 (12/02/21)
Since we have until Week 7 for this assignment, I have left Project 2 on hold to focus on our Final Project for now. I am starting today by organising the assets from my original Photoshop final into their own layers so I can then export them. I will be using Adobe Animate as the animation storyboard I had in mind involves a lot of frame-by-frame animation that I simply cannot do in After Effects with my lack of knowledge.
I sadly do not have the storyboarding I did, as it was deleted in the progress and I didn't notice it was gone until way too late. Always have multiple save files everybody...
However here is my first draft, the timing is rather off and there is no sound added yet. I asked my friends for some feedback and what I received was that the beginning was extremely abrupt and there was no indication that the Ragu section had begun and they thought it was still apart of the pasta creation.

WEEK 7 (16/02/21)
After completing the animation, I had to export it and then add sound effects. I fixed the areas pointed out by my friends as well and finished Project 2! Here is the final outcome:

Week 3: The recipe seems chunked to an understandable degree, look into the motif of the leaf online. It may be available for reference.
Week 4: -
Week 5: The idea seems okay, try using more visualise elements and avoid being too wordy with the poster. The final poster looks good, just change the ingredients to be contained within the margin.
Week 6: -
Week 7: Nicely animated.
REFLECTIONS:
Week 3: Project 1 is a new experience for me entirely, as I have never explored the infographics side of design. The experience this week is rather new but exciting as I am learning a lot from this Project and it is also very interesting. The only downside is having to watch pasta videos, as the side effects are me craving homemade pasta. An observation I made was that chunking information happens everywhere, and it is a really useful method to understand big groups of information. A finding I had made was that hierarchy is an extremely vital component in information design.
Week 4: The experience this week has been... rougher than normal. I've been really struggling to find a concrete idea that meets all the necessary requirements when creating an infographic poster. Especially illustrating the steps while keeping the required steps in text form without being too wordy. Along with keeping the personality of the grandma herself, my initial idea was very restricting and I had to scrap it and begin anew. One observation I made was using boxes when designing is not always the best, as it can be very restricting. One finding I made was that there are many types of infographics from a range of different topics.
Week 5: I now have much more direction, and well I've finished the poster. I really settled down and tried to analyse what motifs I could use while keeping it aesthetically pleasing and matching Licia's personality. I ended up very happy with my final outcome. The experience was overall much more fun and I also got to draw in Photoshop for this assignment. One observation I made was that a lot of infographics tend to use vector style art.
Week 6: Final Project, no progress on Project 2.
Week 7: I have finished the animation now. I spent more time on the final project as I know I can animate quite fast so I was too worried about it. I really liked animating once again, its something that's really enjoyable for me. The experience was really fun, I enjoyed animation though exporting the assets did cause a little difficulty. An observation I made was that really small details can change everything completely. Such as sound effects, or making a frame last just a second longer. A finding I had made was that no matter how polished you think something is, you should always in someone else's opinion. As I had missed a few things in my original animation that were pointed out to me by my friend. With that, it is the end of Information Design! Another module did online, here's to hoping one day we will see the ducks on campus once again. This was a really enjoyable module and one of my favourites in the degree so far.
