INSTRUCTIONS
Week 14:
Here is a look at my process. I always start off with the blank coloured piece which I merged together. After which I will begin my rendering process. I always have a reference photo to work with when doing this. In this case I was looking at metal poles.
After which I will render the piece. I try to work fast so I will typically reuse my objects a lot rather than colour every single thing individually. As you can see the blue metal pieces are all very similar so instead of individually painting each piece I just took the first one I painted and I duplicated it and warped it. I also did repaint it slightly on top to fit the shape it had been bent into better.
Below is another example of before my rendering and after. I also texture bashed in the
Below shows a rough look at what my final call sheet will look like. A small explanation about the vehicle along with the name of the vehicle and which type it is. Lines being drawn to different parts explaining each section and a human-sized figure to show the size of the vehicle. I will also have the orthographic in a small part of the page and a full-sized one.
Week 15:
Here are the concept sketches I did for my key art. I worked with only black and white (other than the vehicle) because I wanted to give my composition some form of depth using the background and foreground as best I could.
Here are my final products for Vehicle Design:
Archytas - Air Vehicle
Archytas takes its name based on the very first idea I had in Project 1. Based on the "Flying Pigeon of Archytas I used as a reference when I was doing my silhouettes. For this reason, I felt the name Archytas was appropriate. The orthographic is rather simple as I was rather low on time when doing these. The key art is my favourite out of the three, I feel like I captured the vibes of the jet well. It is elegant and quiet. Moving through the skies silent and stealthy, like an arrow.

Cerberus - Land Vehicle
Cerberus takes its name from the concept idea for this vehicle as well. Being Cerberus, the three-headed hell hound. Though it may not look like a dog at all anymore, I felt the name suited it as the concept was based around him. The key art depicts it in current-day Greece after it has become dystopian. I am not the best at environment design and I don't have a very solid grasp of how the world should look so it is quite hazy. I added fire in the background to add a bit more chaos to the piece as I felt it was too peaceful for a dystopia.
Cetorhinus takes its name from the scientific term of the Basking Shark being "Cetorhinus maximus". Just like a basking shark, the submarine is harmless and moves through the ocean quietly and slowly without disturbing marine life. It is covered in neon green fish attracting lights to bring them to the suction vacuums. The vacuums are very gentle and only tug the fish in its general direction. The key art is based around the idea that a school of fish is swirling around the submarine while it is in an underwater cave as this vehicle can also be used as an exploration vehicle.
Props Design
Soul Stopper - Nyx' Weapon Design
This is Nyx' signature weapon. Just like him, it is highly unsafe and made of stolen items. The tip being two pieces of sharpened bone which one can only hope is not human bones. Bound together tightly with pieces from Nyx' clothing. He broke off the stop sign into a jagged spear-like shape so he can stick it into the ground. Also so that he can use it as a weapon and laugh when defeating somebody with a broken stop sign.
Here is the final compilation of my final project:
REFLECTION:
Experience: This module.. has been painful, to say the least. I have struggled a lot this semester with work and also just with life in general. With covid seeming near-endless it is difficult to keep the momentum going. Though life is uncertain, my dislike for drawing perspective will remain a constant in my life that's for sure. A huge struggle of mine for sure. But overall I really did enjoy this module. I learned a lot and so many new things about vehicles that I did not know about previously. I realised that I shouldn't just design for aesthetics but also for functionality. It is a vital element that we can easily overlook. I hope to improve more in this subject over time, it is definitely a weak point and I hope my final pieces show the progression of my understanding.
Observation: I noticed I tend to work rather inconsistently in terms of speed. Colouring and rendering is rather fast for me, I have no issue whipping up a simple composition and colouring it in in an hour or two. But coming up with ideas for actual vehicles is so difficult for me. Coming up with ideas in general. I feel my visual library is too small as of now. I need to watch more movies, play more games, and just observe my surroundings more. What small insignificant object could I use in the creation of my next project? I should keep this in mind more.
Findings: I've learned that there is no shortcut in this class. With shortcuts come instability in your designs and structures. Shortcutting during the fundamentals is not the most beneficial. It is good to understand what you are trying to draw and why its form moves the way it does. Just because it seems simple it really isn't.
Overall: Thank you to Mr Kannan for being honest with me in terms of feedback. I will always appreciate honesty even if it is harsh. Not only for being honest but also for being patient with me. I was not feeling the best this semester and he was very understanding and told me to take it easy. Enjoy what you do, your passion will show through your works. This is also to anyone reading, this semester has been very hard and covid is making life extremely hard. But know you're not alone right now, everyone is struggling worldwide. Hopefully, this nightmare will end and things will resume to normal again.
