INSTRUCTIONS
Week 6:
After finishing my general character design. I have begun creating the 3D sculpt for Nyx (Character Name). I started with creating a rough block out of his face and torso. I tried using the knowledge I gained from my studies on male features, along with some Greek face references to create him. The 3D style I was aiming for is something similar to the visual styles in Overwatch and Valorant.
Week 7:
This week I have added more detail to his body, done defining the legs and also marked out his hairline. I redid his face completely trying to mimic Genji and McCree from Overwatch. I also did some studies on Greek faces, with their noses being quite prominent I tried giving him that.
Week 9:
For this week I showed the progress I made on the body changes along with the hair I have made. I used Overwatch as my main reference as usual when creating these.
Week 10:
I have added more details on his face such as eyelashes and his scar. I tried defining the hair a bit better as well. I just generally fixed what I was told to fix from last weeks progress.
FEEDBACK
Week 6: Some parts of the face are not clear enough. The eyes don't have enough depth such as the inner and outer corners. Study planes of the face a bit more to understand the nuances. Muscle structure is not correct in the torso. Read up on how the muscles lay, where they bulge, and where they constrict.
Week 8: -
Week 9: Give the hair a bit more depth and volume using Damien Standard brush. Right now the shapes look just like blocks of material, draw in the lines to give it that feeling of hair. Look at how it is done in games such as Overwatch. Lengthen the arm. It may be proportionally correct but it looks awkward right now it's okay to exaggerate a bit.
Week 10: Move onto Project 2 on the creation of his armour and details. Small adjustments to his body can be made but I need to start clothing now.
REFLECTION
Experience: This has been really fun honestly. I didn't expect I would enjoy 3D modelling as much as I do. It is a unique form of art that requires a lot of knowledge and intuition on anatomy. I'm also just so amazed by Mr Kannans ability to just know exactly what is wrong when showing our work. I hope to gain a better sense of anatomy in a 3D form. As of now, I think my knowledge is still very 2D based, I know how muscles look but I don't really "get" them in a 3D form.
Observation: Quite literally, observation is so important to improving anatomy. I spent so much time just looking at how my arms move to try to see if I could identify the muscles I was seeing on my screen to what was moving in my arms, legs, or anywhere really. It really is a very interesting topic and I am looking forward to improving more in knowledge and skill.
Findings: I have learned more about the general structure of muscle groups. Where certain things lay and how they move. Such as how the chest muscle in men is attached to our ribcage and collar bones, but also connected to near the shoulders. Small quirks and details about the human body. It reminds me of something my art teacher from IGCSEs told me. Nobody is unique, we are all the same in terms of body structure and proportion. Well, for the most part.
