Publication Design:

REFLECTION

Experience: This was surprisingly difficult for me to complete. Pushing it to nearly the final minute, it was hard keeping up with this assignment. As someone who enjoyed Typography and Advanced Typography, I was hoping this would ease my difficulties. But when you have four other modules which are all also extremely heavy it becomes very difficult. A lot of the time I had to focus on those because drawing just takes so much longer and it becomes hard to keep up with this as well.

Observation: There are so many ways you can create a visual publication and make them look interesting. Being experimental but also keeping readability in mind is essential when taking upon something like this. As designers, we need to keep anything we create well polished and have a certain flair that most people will not try and achieve. That flair is what distinguishes us from everyone else, and what makes us "designers".

Findings: Experimental typography keeps things fresh, but remaining consistent will always help the audience digest them. If your first chapter has a certain type of typography as its face page, then try and keep consistent with it for the entirety of that chapter. Keep a theme for each chapter so audiences will be able to digest everything easier. It is much too easy to create something that is too overwhelming for an audience, the text that they are reading should be the most important thing on the pages. Visuals coming in second.
