REFLECTION:

Experience: Finally. I am able to write this, after spending hours and hours refining my blog I am done. Well, I hope. I will most certainly continue checking out of fear that I missed something out. But yes, my experiences in typography. Now that I have taken this for nearly 28 weeks, including my first semester I can confidently say; I like typography. It is tough, it is so time-consuming, it has made me lose so much of my hair and patience. But there is some sort of satisfaction from this subject, I am most definitely going to continue experimenting with typography in the future. Though I am not going into graphic design (I am in Entertainment!!), I will be using ALL of the knowledge I have got from this module. Typography is such a fundamental, as it allowed me to really be critical on myself and nitpick the tiniest of details. I am nowhere near perfect, but I am glad knowing I am much better than I was when I first started in April this year. Overall, I felt this semester was one of the most interesting ones, mostly because of Advanced Typography. I was in a love-hate relationship with this class, and I end it with more love than hate.

Observation: Observations I have made, there are so many new things I have learned from this class. Such as alignments within posters, the flow of typography, how certain fonts can express a message better than others. I observed that you can extract type from almost anything really if you tried hard enough that is. But keeping their characteristics, keeping them unique is a major challenge. I also observed that Key Artworks are vital in a company or events branding. It took me a while to understand it, but after I did, I really understood the significance of them. Another observation I had was that feedback can oftentimes be harsh for all of us, but if it wasn't for the harsh truth we would not grow as designers. Sometimes, you won't always do well and we all need to accept that, including me. Overall, I have learned a lot from these 14 weeks and will continue to learn as I grow as a designer.

Findings: Some findings I have made about myself are plenty. I realised that I actually really enjoy creating typefaces, it was my favourite aspect of this whole module, to be honest. The detail of it really gives me a lot of joy. At first, I thought, "how could someone enjoy creating a font?!" but now I realise how much enjoyment one can have after creating a cool font. Another finding I made in general was that collaterals are very important but very difficult to pull off well. I recognised that my collateral was probably the weakest aspect of my entire semester, it was very difficult to keep within a theme but also go out of the box. I learned that typography is vital, without typography even reading this would be difficult. Though I am not going into a specialisation like Graphic Design, I will most certainly be using all the knowledge I have gained in Typography and Advanced Typography.
